Hepcat Dilemma returned to The Vault for another marathon recording session on Sunday July 13th and completed the recording for the new album. The sessions were overseen by producer Bob McCutcheon and assisted by Brian Ammon and found the band tracking another two songs and completing the vocals and overdubs.
The band arrived at the Neville Island studio early Sunday morning and quickly went about their work, commencing with bassist/singer Chris Colpo adding his vocals. Additional guitars and piano were played by Bob Loiselle and as the songs took shape you could feel the excitement in the studio.
“Chris did an amazing job on the vocals,” said Bob. “I don’t know how he can sing at nine in the morning but he was in great form.” By all accounts the session went smoothly as the band tackled their tasks with ruthless efficiency. “We were prepared and knew what we wanted to do. We didn’t waste any time.”
A total of thirteen songs has been recorded over the two sessions and Hepcat Dilemma are thrilled with the results. It has been a long journey for the follow up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2019 album “Art Imitates Life”. Nearly a whole albums worth of material had been recorded with long-time producer Matt Vaughan but the band decided to start all over again at The Vault.
Two of the songs recorded with Matt, “Things No Way” and a new version of “Stumbling the Streets of No Regret” were released as on online single in June.
The new recordings will be mixed over the coming months and the band is eying a 2026 release for the new album which be released on Rat-on-a-Stick records.
